China Pledges New Grant Support to Namibia for Development Projects

WINDHOEK, July 28 – The Government of China has pledged additional grant support to Namibia to finance development assistance projects aimed at advancing the country’s socio-economic development and improving the well-being of its people.

Announcing the commitment on Monday, Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, His Excellency Zhao Weiping, said ”the grant will be used to implement a range of development initiatives in line with Namibia’s national development priorities.”

The ambassador said youth empowerment will be a major area of focus, with both countries agreeing to strengthen educational exchanges and cooperation. China also committed to expanding cooperation in human resource development, capacity building and technical support through government scholarships, professional training programmes and skills development opportunities for Namibians.

In addition, agriculture will remain a key pillar of China-Namibia bilateral cooperation, with continued collaboration expected to enhance agricultural productivity, food security and rural development.

The announcement follows the recent elevation of bilateral relations between China and Namibia to a Community with a Shared Future for the New Era, reflecting both countries’ commitment to deepening cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including education, agriculture, infrastructure and human capacity development.
