The Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) ignited a powerful dialogue on August 22 at its Bellville Campus during the 2nd Annual Critical Conversation. Bringing together students, academics, policymakers, and activists, the event wrestled with a provocative theme: “Beyond Liberation: Is Education a Liberator or an Oppressor in the Struggle for Peace, Gender Equity, and Economic Justice?”
Coinciding with International Youth Day, South Africa’s National Women’s Month, and World Humanitarian Day, this timely discussion was hosted by CPUT’s Central Student Representative Council (CSRC) in partnership with the international peace group Heavenly Culture, World Peace, Restoration of Light (HWPL) and other collaborators.
Opening the event, CPUT Vice-Chancellor Professor Nhlapho inspired participants with encouraging remarks geared towards empowering students at the heart of this crucial debate.
