DODOMA, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) — The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the government of Tanzania have partnered to develop a roadmap for providing respectful services and effective communication in primary healthcare, an official announced on Thursday.
Shally Zumba, UNICEF Tanzania’s quality of primary health specialist, said that UNICEF is committed to ensuring client satisfaction in the health sector by delivering quality services.
To commence the initiative, UNICEF organized a one-day seminar on Thursday in the capital, Dodoma, to equip health workers with skills on treating individuals using proper language and respectful care.
Zumba said that the objective of the initiative is to ensure that humanity, respect and ethical conduct are observed when delivering healthcare services.
Grace Maghembe, the deputy permanent secretary in the Ministry of Health of Tanzania, said that the ministry has prepared guidelines for service delivery and addressing challenges in healthcare services.
According to her, healthcare accessibility has increased to 70 percent, with Tanzanians now accessing services within five km, a significant improvement from the previous requirement of walking over 10 km.
