DAR ES SALAAM, Oct. 28– Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Friday declared Oct. 29, the day of the country’s general election, as a public holiday to allow citizens to participate in voting fully. According to a statement issued by Chief Secretary Moses Kusiluka, the decision covers both public servants and private-sector employees, enabling them to exercise their constitutional right to vote for the president, members of parliament, and councilors. The announcement followed a confirmation by the Independent National Electoral Commission that the general election will be held on Oct. 29. Tanzania‘s Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi also declared the same date a public holiday across the semi-autonomous archipelago to ensure full voter participation. Tanzania is scheduled to hold its general elections on Oct. 29, with citizens across the mainland and Zanzibar expected to elect national and local leaders.
