Windhoek, Sept 8 — President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Bishop Luke L. Pato, describing him as a revered spiritual leader whose life was defined by faith, compassion and service to humanity.

Bishop Pato passed away on Sunday, 6 September 2026.

In her message of condolence, President Nandi-Ndaitwah said Namibia had lost a dedicated shepherd whose ministry extended beyond the Church and made a lasting contribution to the moral and social fabric of the country.

As Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Namibia, Pato was remembered for his pastoral leadership, counsel and commitment to values including peace, justice, reconciliation and human dignity.

The President said Bishop Pato’s passing leaves Namibia “poorer in spirit,” while his life and legacy have left the nation richer through his years of service.

“We shall remember him as a faithful shepherd, a source of wisdom and a steady moral presence whose contribution to the spiritual and social fabric of our nation will endure,” she said.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah extended condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Namibia, as well as on her own behalf, to the Pato family, the Anglican Church in Namibia, the St. George’s Diocesan community and everyone touched by his ministry.

She also called on the bereaved to draw comfort from Bishop Pato’s life of purpose and service, praying that Almighty God would comfort his family, the Anglican community and all those mourning his passing.

“May the soul of Bishop Luke L. Pato rest in eternal peace,” the President said.
