The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), in collaboration with UNICEF and UNESCO, today launches its first regional consultation on the Draft Teaching Profession Bill and its Regulations in Keetmanshoop, //Karas Region.
The consultations will be conducted across all 14 regions from 15 September to 17 October 2025 and bring together teachers, unions, parents, learners and community stakeholders to provide input on the regulations that will guide the Teaching Profession Bill.
Today’s session takes place at the Schützenhaus Hotel and is facilitated by officials from the Ministry in partnership with UNICEF and UNESCO.
The program includes presentations on understanding legislation, detailed discussions on draft regulations, and interactive sessions for participants to contribute their views on teacher registration, professional ethics, training, and disciplinary procedures.
Mr Nicolaas Eiman, MEIYSAC Regional Director of the //Karas Region, explained to stakeholders that the Teaching Profession Bill is derived from the views of the people and seeks to professionalise the teaching profession from Early Childhood Development to the tertiary level, with the ultimate goal of protecting learners and students.
He emphasised that the Bill is not intended to target teachers, lecturers, or instructors, but rather to safeguard learners while also ensuring that educators are professionalised, accredited, and protected in the exercise of their duties.
The officials called on all stakeholders to actively participate in the consultations to ensure that the final regulations reflect the voices and needs of educators and communities across the country.
