Niger suspends 9 French media outlets over public order concerns

NIAMEY, May 9 — Niger’s media regulator on Friday suspended broadcasts by nine French media outlets nationwide over content it said could “seriously jeopardize public order” and destabilize the country.

According to a statement from the National Observatory of Communication, the ban targets France 24, RFI, France Afrique Media, LSI Africa, AFP, TV5 Monde, TF1 Info, Jeune Afrique and Mediapart. The suspension extends to satellite packages, cable networks, digital platforms, websites, mobile applications, as well as audiovisual and digital broadcasting relays operating in Niger.

Satellite package distributors, audiovisual operators, internet service providers and broadcasting platforms must take all necessary technical measures to ensure the “immediate implementation” of the decision, it said.
