Namibia’s Vice President Lucia Witbooi and Algeria’s Energy Minister Mohamed Arkab Strengthen Cooperation in Oil, Gas, and Renewable Energy Sectors

Windhoek, September 5 — Vice President Witbooi was accompanied by Hon. Jenelly Matundu, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Trade; Hon. Kornelia Shilunga, Special Advisor and Head of the Upstream Petroleum Unit in the Presidency; as well as senior government officials from the Presidency and the Ministry of International Relations and Trade.

During the meeting, Algeria reaffirmed its readiness to support Namibia as a strategic partner, in line with the vision of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. Algeria further expressed willingness to share its expertise through legal advisory support, capacity-building and technical training, as well as exchanges of experts to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector.

Vice President Witbooi expressed Namibia’s appreciation for Algeria’s solidarity and underscored President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s commitment to ensuring that Namibians fully benefit from the country’s emerging Oil and Gas sector. She emphasised Namibia’s intention to leverage Algeria’s expertise to strengthen national legislation, improve capacity, and secure greater benefits from its natural resources.

Both parties agreed to deepen bilateral engagement, including forthcoming high-level visits to Algeria for in-depth discussions and site visits to strategic oil, gas, Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), and renewable energy facilities. 

Vice President Witbooi concluded by affirming Namibia’s readiness to work closely with Algeria in shaping a mutually beneficial African energy partnership that advances prosperity and sustainability for both nations and the continent.
