Windhoek, Aug 1 — The Namibian Government has issued directives urging all Offices, Ministries, and Agencies (O/M/As) to prioritize procurement of goods from Government stores. Procurement from external suppliers should only occur when items are unavailable in Government stores confirmed in writing. This policy supports national goals by encouraging purchases from local manufacturers or suppliers thus stimulating local economic activity, creating jobs, and fostering industrial development.
During the 15th Cabinet meeting, the Government approved the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture to draft a Space Science and Technology Bill. The bill will establish a framework for coordinating space science and technology activities aimed at driving socio-economic growth and development within the country. Once drafted, the bill will be submitted to Cabinet for formal endorsement.
These decisions demonstrate the government’s commitment both to boosting local industry through strategic procurement and to advancing the country’s participation in emerging technological fields such as space science and technology.
