Windhoek, March 21 – President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah commemorated Namibia’s 36th Independence Anniversary today, honoring the 1990 declaration by Founding President Sam Nujoma that ended apartheid rule and raised the national flag for the first time.
In her address, delivered as events unfolded across all 14 regions under the theme “Beyond 36: For a Prosperous Future,” the President reflected on the sacrifices of liberation heroes like Andimba Toivo ya Toivo. She urged Namibians to safeguard peace, combat poverty, inequality, unemployment, corruption, tribalism, racism and regionalism emphasizing that “we are too few to be poor.”
Nandi-Ndaitwah highlighted progress under the 8th Administration including the National Youth Development Fund, subsidized tertiary education, expanded infrastructure and resilient economic growth projected at 3.1% for 2026. She warned of global risks like USA, Israel, Iran tensions and climate change calling for dialogue, environmental protection and collective action.
“Independence belongs to every Namibian,” she said, rallying citizens to build an inclusive prosperous nation. “Let us move forward together as One Namibia, One Nation.”
The nationwide events underscore unity with the President concluding, “Long Live the Republic of Namibia! Unity, Liberty, Justice!”
