MTC SUPPORTS OTJOZONDJUPA NAMPOL IN ENFORCING ROAD SAFETY

Otjiwarongo, April 24 – Premier digital driver, MTC, through its corporate goodwill, over the weekend handed over equipment worth N$65 000 to the Otjiwarongo Namibian Police and Motor Vehicle Funds. The donation is given to aid the police force in the region in effectively executing their duty of enforcing and maintaining traffic laws and order in the region.
The donated items include reflective jackets, a power generator, extension reels, road cones, foldable chairs and tables, rubber touches amongst others.

Expressing appreciation, Otjozondjupa Regional Commander, Commissioner Heinrich Tjiveze welcomed the support. “We recognize our stakeholders, namely MTC and MVA for valuing the shared purpose of keeping our national roads safe. Road carnage is detrimental and requires a collective effort to curtail. The in-kind support will make it more possible for us to be visible 24/7 as we work to
ensure compliance and safety on the Namibian road web.”
MTC’s Corporate Affairs Manager, John Ekongo said that “Despite having a well-developed road network in the world, Namibia is still one of the countries with the highest motor vehicle accident fatality rate. Due to the detriment nature of road carnage and following our constant engagement with MVA fund on road safety, we have resolved to aid the Namibian, traffic department – as the authority tasked with a crucial role to enforce traffic laws. Each year, we lose loved ones in road crashes, and each life lost is a life too many. Thus, any form of support towards achieving a zero record of fatalities on our roads is invaluable.”

Present at the event, Daniel Mouton of MVA Fund echoed the need for collaborative efforts in curbing road accidents, while calling on road users to always adhere to traffic rules. Mouton further informed the need to constantly partner and implement preventative measure through public education and law enforcement. He urged the public to use the 24hours toll-free number
“9682” to report accidents or report any violation of traffic rules and regulations. MTC, in 2017 donated phones to the Erongo region traffic law enforcement, a prevention commitment stretched with the objective of reducing preventable deaths and injuries on the
Namibian roads.
