Windhoek, January 26 — The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture officially launched the 2026 online application process for financial assistance through the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund (NSFAF) on Tuesday, a move aimed at making tertiary education more accessible and equitable for Namibian students.
Speaking at the event, Minister Sanet L. Steenkamp highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting higher education, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder students from reaching their academic potential. “Through sustained public investment, we continue to cover registration and tuition fees for all eligible and qualifying students, ensuring that financial circumstances do not become a barrier to academic potential,” the Minister said.
Minister Steenkamp emphasized that the online platform is part of broader reforms aimed at creating a more inclusive and responsive education system. She stressed the importance of equity in tertiary education, noting that all students, regardless of background or institution, should have fair access to quality learning opportunities.
The Minister also called on private sector partners to complement government efforts by supporting financing mechanisms targeting students with the greatest need, and investing in innovative delivery models, including digital learning and flexible study pathways.
Acknowledging the additional challenges faced by students from disadvantaged backgrounds, Minister Steenkamp said government funding under the Subsidised Tertiary Education Funding Model provides critical non-tuition support, helping students remain enrolled and focused on completing their studies. “This funding model is firmly needs-based and developmental in its intent. When we support students in this way, we invest in human potential,” she said.
The launch comes amid ongoing efforts to implement national minimum standards across all tertiary institutions, strengthening quality, coherence and public confidence in Namibia’s higher education system.
Minister Steenkamp urged students to embrace the opportunities available and to remain disciplined and purposeful in pursuing their academic goals. She concluded by officially opening the 2026 NSFAF online applications, encouraging all eligible students to apply.
