ACCRA, Oct. 8 — Ghana’s president John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday presented a cash reward of 500,000 Ghana cedis (40,000 U.S. dollars), to the University for Development Studies (UDS) for winning the FISU University Football World Cup in China. Making the donation to the team, President Mahama commended the university for its feat, calling it part of his “reset Ghana” agenda. “I would like to commend all those who made this team win the University Football World Cup, and we are all proud of you, as this is part of the reset agenda,” said Mahama, adding that the government is working to strengthen youth and university sports systems to ensure that talented students or athletes are identified, developed and supported to reach professional levels. Ghana’s UDS defeated defending champion Paulista University of Brazil 2-1 to win the FISU University World Football World Cup in northeast China’s Dalian last month.
