Cameroonian minister announces bid for presidential election

YAOUNDE, June 28 — Cameroon’s Minister of Tourism and Leisure Bello Bouba Maigari on Saturday announced his candidacy in the country’s presidential election scheduled for October. Maigari made the announcement after members of his party National Union for Democracy and Progress urged him to run for the election. “I accept to be candidate for the 2025 presidential election,” Maigari told party members during an executive meeting in the country’s capital, Yaounde. Maigari has served in top ranking government position since 1982. He was the 2nd Prime Minister of Cameroon from 6 November 1982 to 22 August 1983. His announcement came barely days after Minister of Employment and Vocational Training Issa Tchiroma Bakary resigned from the government and announced his intention to run for the presidential election.
