GABORONE, Feb. 11- Brastorne Enterprises in Botswana launched the Banjee application, a neighborhood and community-based application designed to bring communities together, primarily to fight crime. Speaking Wednesday during a neighborhood watch group meeting in Molepolole village, about 57 km from the national capital of Gaborone, Kabelo Moroka, business development manager of Brastorne, revealed that the application was developed in response to Botswana’s rapid surge in crime, which law enforcement alone could not handle. “We wanted to come up with solutions that can help individuals at the community level to come together and do what is called neighborhood policing, so we made Banjee for them, and we came to talk to them about the application,” Moroka told Xinhua in an interview. “Once the neighborhood group is registered, there is a panic button that can alert others in the group of your location if you press it during an assault,” he said, emphasizing that the application would ease the burden on law enforcement. Brastorne, established in 2018, seeks to provide solutions for government institutions, non-governmental organizations, and individuals with minimal resources. It offers ways to ensure that even those who cannot afford digital information have access to important services, markets, and meaningful communities. The company is focusing on the village of Molepolole because of the high number of crimes committed there, but they intend to raise awareness in other areas and eventually expand to South Africa, according to Moroka.
