Police Record 16 Serious Incidents Over Weekend

Windhoek, 14 September 2026 — The Namibian Police recorded a series of serious incidents across the country between 11 and 13 September 2026, including cases of murder, attempted murder, suicide, domestic violence, culpable homicide, inquests and stock theft.

Several incidents involved domestic and interpersonal violence. In Divundu, a woman sustained serious burns after a suspect allegedly kicked a pot of boiling porridge at her during an argument. The suspect was arrested and is in police custody. In Okakarara, a 43 year old woman sustained serious injuries after she was allegedly assaulted with chains, while in Grootfontein, a 40 year old woman was seriously injured after allegedly being stabbed several times by a man with whom she was reportedly in a relationship.

In Okongo, a 46 year old man allegedly shot a 43 year old woman in the head and arm before turning the firearm on himself. The man later died from his injuries at Onandjokwe State Hospital, while the woman remained hospitalised in serious condition. The motive for the shooting had not been established.

Murder cases were also reported in Ongha, Rehoboth and Mondesa. In Ongha, a 24 year old man died after allegedly being stabbed in the chest following an argument and physical fight. In Rehoboth, the body of an 11 year old Grade 5 learner was discovered in a riverbed after he had reportedly failed to return home from school, with bruises observed on his body. In Mondesa, a 16 year old boy died after allegedly being stabbed during a fight with a 17 year old suspect, who was later arrested.

The police also recorded several deaths suspected to be suicides. In Ombili, a 25 year old man was found hanging in his room, while in Onanke, a 42 year old man was found hanging from a tree. In Okongo , the decomposed body of a 45 year old man was discovered hanging in his room, with a suspected suicide note reportedly left behind.

Two fatal incidents involved children. In Omuthiya, a 3 year old boy allegedly fell into a well and drowned while he and four other children were fetching water for cattle. In Ohangwena, a 7 year old girl died after allegedly running into the road and being struck by a motor vehicle.

Meanwhile, Oshakati recorded a fatal road crash after a Silver Volkswagen Polo allegedly collided with a trailer being towed by a Toyota Hilux, resulting in the death of a 28 year old man. In Schlip and Gibeon, police opened inquest cases following the deaths of men who were reportedly found dead after suffering medical conditions.

A stock theft case was also reported in Divundu, where suspects allegedly slaughtered a pregnant cow and took the meat. One suspect was arrested, while another known suspect remained at large.

Police said investigations into the reported incidents are continuing with next of kin notified in the cases where indicated.
