Daures, Sept 14 – Three schools in the Erongo Region, namely Okongue in Daures, JP Brandt in Utuseb and !Oe #Gab in Tubusis, each received a block of two classrooms, storerooms and renovations to existing structures through the MTC Rural Schools Project.The infrastructure was constructed at a value of N$3.2 million.
The announcement was made yesterday, 08 September 2026, during the official handover event held at Okongue in the Daures Constituency, Erongo Region.
At the handover event, Honourable Nathalia /Goagoses, Governor of the Erongo Region, commended MTC and the MVA Fund for the continued and impactful investment in education. /Goagoses said: “Education is a shared responsibility. While Government provides leadership, policy direction and resources, strong partnerships with the private sector, communities and other stakeholders
enable us to achieve greater impact. I therefore encourage other businesses and organisations to follow the example set by MTC Namibia and the MVA Fund by investing meaningfully in initiatives that improve the lives of our people.”
/Goagoses added: “A classroom is more than four walls and a roof; it is a place where dreams begin, potential is discovered and futures are shaped. These improved facilities will provide our learners with a safer, more dignified and conducive environment in which to learn, grow and pursue their aspirations. I therefore urge the school and the community to take ownership of these facilities by protecting, maintaining and preserving them for generations of learners to come.”
Tim Ekandjo, MTC’s Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer, said: “With a significant classroom shortfall across the country, we need more corporate partnerships to support Government in addressing this national challenge. In partnership with the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, we have built 61 classrooms nationwide. As the project continues, we call on other corporates to join us because, collectively, we can make a greater impact.”
MVA Fund Chief Corporate Affairs, John Haufiku, said: “While our core mandate is to prevent crashes and support those affected by motor vehicle crashes, we remain committed to investing in communities, with education being one of our CSI focus areas.”
“Our partnership with MTC reflects this commitment. We are proud to have contributed N$1 million towards classroom blocks and storerooms at three schools in the Erongo Region, an investment not only in infrastructure, but also in the potential of Namibian learners, wherever they live.”
Okongue Primary School Principal, Mr Jossel Hindjou, expressed his gratitude and commended MTC and the MVA Fund for driving the Rural Schools Project. “We are grateful beyond words. The impact of this project is positively changing the teaching and learning experience, especially for those of us in remote areas. We faced a serious shortage of classrooms, and as teachers, we did not have a staff room. That is now history, thanks to MTC and the MVA Fund.”
