512 migrants return to home countries from Libya

TRIPOLI, July 30 — A total of 512 migrants returned from Libya to their home countries this week on three Voluntary Humanitarian Return (VHR) flights, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) announced on Wednesday.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the IOM said three flights transported 161 migrants to Chad and 351 others to Burkina Faso, The Gambia, and Mali under its VHR program. The organization said the flights were carried out with the support of the European Union, adding that the program enables migrants to return home safely and with dignity.

The IOM implements its Voluntary Humanitarian Return and Reintegration program to assist migrants wishing to return from Libya to their countries of origin, as the country remains a major transit point for irregular migrants attempting to reach European shores.
