Zimbabwean president vows to promote people-centered projects

HARARE, Sept. 27- Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa said Tuesday that his administration will prioritize the implementation of projects aimed at improving the quality of life for all Zimbabweans, according to the state-owned New Ziana news agency. Mnangagwa made the remarks during the inaugural meeting of his new cabinet, following his party’s victory in the elections held last month, in which he retained the presidency for his second term. He underscored the need to accelerate the implementation of projects and programs initiated during his first term to ensure their timely completion and to deliver tangible benefits to the people. “As the executive arm of government, our policies, programs and projects should remain people-centered for an improved quality of life for all our people. Production and productivity across all sectors must be accelerated,” he said. Zimbabwe could face a drought caused by the El Nino phenomenon in the upcoming agricultural season, starting in November. Mnangagwa said that his cabinet would remain dedicated to bolstering food security at both household and national levels. While weather forecasts indicate the possibility of El Nino, the country holds out hope for favorable rainfall that can further drive agricultural growth and enhance the agro-industrial sector, he said, adding that “In view of climate change, our people should be encouraged to practice climate-proofed and smart agriculture according to ecological regions. Agriculture export markets must be pursued more vigorously.” Furthermore, the president stressed the government’s commitment to expanding access to affordable social services, particularly in rural areas, to improve the lives of Zimbabweans.
