LUSAKA, March 12 — Zambian Vice President Mutale Nalumango on Wednesday highlighted the potential of young people to become powerful agents for change if properly supported. “In today’s fast changing world, the voice of the youth is more important than ever. You are not just leaders of tomorrow, you are the change makers of today,” she said during the commemoration of the National Youth Day in Lusaka, the country’s capital. This year’s theme, “Voices Amplified and Innovation Ignited,” underscores the need to listen to young people and empower them to lead through innovation, Nalumango said. According to the vice president, as Zambia’s future rests in the hands of the youth, it is imperative to address challenges that impede their growth and development. She further called for efforts across the country to foster open discussions, remove stigma around mental health, and develop innovative strategies to combat alcohol and substance abuse for youth development. The government recognizes the role of innovation in addressing the challenges and remains committed to supporting the youth by investing in education, skills training, and opportunities to succeed, she added.
