Zambian president encourages youth to contribute to national development.

LUSAKA, March 15– Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema on Tuesday urged young people to channel their energy into productive ventures. While acknowledging the government’s efforts to empower young people, Hichilema said it is incumbent on them to show commitment and dedication to doing productive things that will contribute to national development. “Nothing can stand in the way of a strong, dedicated youth. Whatever you want to achieve, you can achieve it if you are committed,” he said during the commemoration of the 2024 National Youth Day held in the eastern town of Chipata.

The event, in line with the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of independence this year, was held simultaneously in different parts of the country. The Zambian president called on the current generation of young people to emulate the spirit of commitment and dedication shown by those who participated in fighting for the country’s independence. Hichilema acknowledged the challenges facing Zambia’s youth, including limited job opportunities and access to business. He highlighted government efforts to address these issues, citing the introduction of free education as a key step toward ensuring every child can access schooling.
