KAMPALA, Aug. 31 — The Ugandan and Rwandan militaries have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening military cooperation and promoting peace and stability along the shared border between the two neighboring countries.
According to a statement issued by the Ugandan military on Sunday, senior military officers from the two countries made the commitment at the eighth Proximity Commanders’ Meeting, held Saturday in Mbarara City in western Uganda. The meeting brought together senior commanders to discuss security and other issues affecting communities along the Uganda-Rwanda border, as well as ways to deepen cooperation between the two militaries. Uganda’s Deputy Commander of Land Forces Felix Busizoori said such engagements contribute to peace and security, mutual understanding and improved working methods between the two forces. Busizoori said stronger cooperation between the two countries was important for economic development despite challenges including cultural differences, geopolitical dynamics and resource constraints. Speaking on behalf of the Rwandan military delegation, Ruki Karusisi commended the Ugandan military leadership for its commitment to strengthening relations between the two militaries.
