KAMPALA, Aug. 30 — Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on Saturday declared three days of national mourning for King Oyo of the Tooro Kingdom, who died of cancer at the age of 34 after ascending to the throne as a three-year-old.
Museveni said in a statement posted on the social media platform X that King Oyo, a cultural leader of the Tooro Kingdom in western Uganda, died Thursday while receiving treatment for aggressive cancer in the United States. “I direct that H.H. (His Highness) Oyo be given an official burial and, for three days, all the flags fly at half-mast. The three days are: the day of the burial, the day before and the day after,” the president said. King Oyo ascended to the throne in 1995 at the age of three following the death of his father and ruled under a regency until he turned 18 in 2010.
