Tragic: 414 People perish in road accident since January 2025 in Namibia

Windhoek, Oct 21– Namibia has lost 414 people due to road accidents since the beginning of the year 2025, Police spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi has confirmed to the media today. Shikwambi has described the situation as” heartbreaking and unacceptable”. On Monday 20 September 2025, Namibia lost nine lives and left 15 others injured in a horrific accident which occurred in Oshikoto Region. Meanwhile MVA Fund has sent out condolences to the families of the mass crash. Road traffic crashes are a serious public health issue in Namibia, even though its population is relatively low estimated at over three million. A comparison of the statistics from, 2021 shows that Namibia had 22 road traffic fatalities per 100 000 compared to 2.3 per 100 000 in the UK the same year.
