Tanzania retains world’s leading safari destination title at travel awards

DAR ES SALAAM, Dec. 9 — Tanzania has reaffirmed its status as a global tourism powerhouse after being named the World’s Leading Safari Destination at the World Travel Awards (WTA) 2025 Grand Finals, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism announced Sunday. The ministry said in a statement that this recognition marks the second consecutive year Tanzania has secured the coveted title. The 32nd edition of the WTA gala brought together more than 500 government officials and industry leaders from around the world, said the statement. This year’s event proved a triple triumph for the East African nation: Zanzibar claimed the World Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions Award for Africa’s Best Corporate Retreat Destination, while the Serengeti, home to the world-famous wildebeest migration, was named the World’s Leading National Park 2025. Speaking after the awards ceremony, Hassan Abbasi, permanent secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, said the distinctions reflect the country’s commitment to responsible tourism and strengthened conservation efforts led jointly by the government and private sector. Tanzania is scheduled to host the World Travel Awards Grand Final in December 2026.
