KIGALI, Feb. 8 — Rwanda and Poland on Wednesday signed agreements facilitating cooperation in various areas including trade, green technologies, environmental engineering, geology and energy efficiency. Rwandan Minister of Foreign Affairs Vincent Biruta and Andrzej Szejna, Polish secretary of state in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, signed the agreements during a ceremony witnessed by Rwandan President Paul Kagame and his visiting counterpart Andrzej Duda in Kigali, the capital of Rwanda. “We have accomplished a lot together, the diplomatic presence in our respective countries will only serve to accelerate and solidify the good progress we are making,” Kagame told a joint news conference. Duda, who arrived in the country Tuesday for a three-day visit, said Poland is searching for credible partners in African countries, especially those who subscribe to similar values. “We do not doubt that in Rwanda we find understanding and friends, in this respect,” he said. Later in the day, Kagame and Duda attended a roundtable discussion with Polish and Rwandan business leaders, exploring the private sector’s role in implementing the signed cooperation deals. While in Rwanda, the Polish president and his wife, Agata Kornhauser-Duda, also visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial site to honor the more than 1 million victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. Duda arrived in Rwanda from Kenya and will be heading to Tanzania on the next leg of his Africa tour.
