Eenhana, Sept 26 – The Rob Youth Foundation Ohangwena Region on Saturday 23 September 2023 successfully hosted its first School debating Competition in the beautiful town of Eenhana, Ohangwena Region. The Motion was centered around Sexual Reproductive Health Right (SRHR) in Ohangwena Region.
Eenhana Primary School and ST Michael Private School participated in the Primary category of the competition, While Haimbili Haufiku Secondary School, PH Muandingi Junior Secondary School, and Eembaxhu Combined School contested in the Secondary Category level.
The motions debates on whether This House Believes (THB) girls are more disadvantaged and vulnerable than boys in the community for round. The other motion was This House Believes (THB) that access to Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education and services in schools encourages learners to engage in sexual activities for last round.
Each school was represented by 10 members Including 2 teachers but some only came with 1 teacher.
The Debating competition was organized with the aim of understanding, finding out or see how well learners know about sexual reproductive health and rights. To see how effective their understanding, intelligence and communication can defend their debate and help them educate each other on finding solutions for social issues in Ohangwena region. We have witnessed the Greatness, evidence and powerful reasoning and rebuttals that made us to appreciate and believe that our region and country is in good hands. The schools are producing greater, open and powerful leaders.
At primary level ST Michael won and they took the trophy home while and secondary level Haimbili Haufiku won and took the trophy home. All participants got certificates and each school had the best debaters that got a certificate as well.
The Rob Youth Foundation Ohangwena Regional Team proudly provided Refreshments and snacks for both teachers and learners as tye day was really long and to appreciate them.
The RYF Ohangwena Regional Team is proud to host its Inaugural Debating Competition and believes that such initiatives are very crucial to be conducted in order to interact with the youth and the community in general and also develop communication skills that will assist us find solutions to the social and economic problems that our country is facing. The team is looking forward to the next debating event and promise to be bigger and exciting.
