Rising Cyberbullying After 2025 Malawi Exam Results Sparks Alarm

Child rights activist Memory Ngosi Chisenga has sounded the alarm over a troubling surge in cyberbullying targeting children following the release of national exam results. The Malawi National Examinations Board (MANEB) announced the 2025 Junior Certificate of Education (JCE) and Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) results yesterday, igniting widespread discussions online.

In a heartfelt Facebook post, Chisenga expressed deep concern over the public sharing of pupils’ exam results on social media platforms like Facebook. She highlighted how children who performed poorly are being mocked and humiliated, sometimes even subjected to physical and verbal abuse. Worryingly, some parents themselves post their children’s results in online forums seeking advice, inadvertently exposing them to public scrutiny and criticism.

Chisenga urged parents and guardians to show compassion and support instead of condemnation. “This is the time to encourage our children, discipline with love, and reject cyberbullying, name calling, and threats,” she said. She emphasized that protecting children’s mental health and wellbeing should be a top priority, and stressed the importance of maintaining confidentiality around sensitive information related to exam results.

Her call serves as a vital reminder that the journey of education is about growth and support not humiliation.
