Police responding to reports of active shooters at Sydney’s Bondi Beach, 2 in custody

SYDNEY, Dec. 14– Police in Australia’s Sydney have been called to reports of active shooters at the city’s iconic Bondi Beach on Sunday, with local media reporting that multiple people have been shot. Police also confirmed that two people are in custody. The police force in the state of New South Wales (NSW) said in a post on social media shortly before 7 p.m. local time on Sunday that officers were responding to a developing incident at Bondi Beach and are urging members of the public to avoid the area. Anyone at the scene has been advised to take shelter. News Corp Australia newspapers reported that multiple people had been shot, with videos from the scene reportedly showing two masked men firing high-powered guns into a crowd. Up to 50 gunshots were reported to have been heard at Bondi Beach, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
