DAR ES SALAAM, March 28 — More than 4,000 young people in East Africa have been trained in digital skills over the past three years under the Digital Skills for an Innovative East African Industry project, set to conclude on March 31. A statement issued on Wednesday by the East African Community (EAC) headquarters in Arusha, Tanzania, said the project, implemented by the Inter-University Council for East Africa and the German development agency GIZ, has significantly impacted digital skills development among the region’s youth. According to the statement, with over 4,000 young East Africans trained, the initiative has fostered a thriving cooperation ecosystem, engaging more than 300 private sector partners and 100 universities. As a result, it has built a solid foundation for the future of digital transformation in East Africa. The statement said that with 164 master’s students enrolled, 124 fully funded scholarships awarded, and a 90 percent graduate employment rate, the program has laid the foundation for digital transformation in East Africa. The EAC is a regional intergovernmental organization aiming to promote economic, political, and social integration in East Africa. Its members are Burundi, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
