Namibia’s consumer price index down to 4.5 percent in March

WINDHOEK, April 10– Namibia’s consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, for March declined to 4.5 percent compared to 7.2 percent recorded in March 2023, according to statistics released Tuesday.
Food and non-alcoholic beverages, alcoholic beverages, and tobacco are the main contributors to the decline, said Alex Shimuafeni, statistician general of Namibia Statistics Agency, in a bulletin.
On a month-on-month basis, the inflation rate remained unchanged, the bulletin showed.
According to the data of Namibia Statistics Agency, bread and cereal prices which account for the highest weight of food items that consumers purchase declined 1.4 percent in March 2024, compared to an increase of 20.8 percent witnessed during March 2023.
