Namibians living in the United Kingdom urged to be on Alert all time

Windhoek, Aug 8 – – The Government of the Republic of Namibia through the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation yesterday issued a media statement for the approximately 2,000 Namibians currently in the United Kingdom, including students, expatriates, and other residents, as well as those planning to travel there, due to the escalating turmoil in the country.

Ambassador Sabine Böhlke-Möller, Acting Executive Director, emphasized that the Namibian government is vigilantly monitoring the situation. “Anti-immigrant rioters have been involved in looting, arson, and violent confrontations with law enforcement in cities such as London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Sunderland, Manchester, Hull, and Bristol.

Namibian diplomatic mission strongly advises all Namibian citizens in the UK, as well as those considering travel there, to exercise the highest level of caution and avoid areas affected by these disturbances,” said Böhlke-Möller.

Those in affected areas should remain indoors and limit their outings to essential needs only. It is crucial to steer clear of large crowds and demonstrations and to remain alert and aware of their surroundings at all times. Stay informed!

The Namibian diplomatic mission further urged Namibians to adhere to the guidance of local authorities and police. Namibians residing in or traveling to the UK are encouraged to register with the Namibian High Commission for timely updates and emergency support.
