The President of the Republic of Namibia, H.E. Dr. Nangolo Mbumba, expresses profound shock and sadness following the tragic death of Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, Vice President of Malawi, and nine Malawi nationals in a Malawi Defence Force aircraft crash on Monday, 10 June 2024.

“It is with profound shock and sadness that I have learned about the unfortunate incident involving a Malawi Defence Force aircraft crash, which led to the demise of Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, Vice President of the Republic of Malawi, the former First Lady of Malawi Madame Shanil Dzimbiri and other Malawian nationals. I have known Right Honourable Chilima as a leader with a deep affection for the people of Malawi and the SADC region. It is unfortunate that Vice President Saulos Klaus Chilima passed on at a time when he still had so much to

offer to the people of Malawi and Africa. His loss will not only be felt by the people of Malawi, but the entire African continent. On behalf of the people and Government of the Republic of Namibia, I extend heartfelt sympathy and condolences to my dear brother His Excellency Dr. Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera, the bereaved Chilima families, and the entire nation of Malawi during this difficult period of untold grief. Namibia stands in solidarity with the courageous people of Malawi, and we are keeping you in our prayers during this horrendous chapter in your history.

I am confident that the resilient people of Malawi will rise from this terrible ordeal.

May the bereaved families and the entire people of Malawi be comforted during this grim period.”
