Namibia Hosts Regional Workshop on Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Emissions Reduction

Windhoek, July 17 — The Namibia Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), in collaboration with the European Union and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), is hosting a landmark workshop on Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA), Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF), and CORSIA Eligible Fuels (CEF) from 16 to 18 July 2025 at the NCAA head office in Windhoek.
This workshop forms part of the EU-CORSIA Africa and Caribbean Project, which aimed at building technical capacity in CO₂ mitigation for the international aviation sector, especially in developing states. The workshop brings together national
stakeholders including government ministries, aviation operators, academic institutions, and industry representatives.
The opening session on Wednesday, 16 July, is marked by a keynote address from the Executive Director of NCAA, Ms. Toska Sem, who has underscored the strategic importance of sustainable aviation as Namibia intensifies efforts to align with global
climate goals and transition toward green energy solutions.
“This gathering is not merely a technical exchange. It is a strategic opportunity for Namibia to transform international climate commitments into locally actionable frameworks that foster sustainable aviation, green fuel innovation, and energy
independence,” said Ms. Sem in her opening remarks.
Over the course of three days, expert facilitator Mr. Mark Latimer from the EU-CORSIA Project will guide participants through key themes including:
 The SAF value chain and blending standards

 Life cycle emissions and sustainability certification
 The integration of SAF into national policy
 Namibia’s potential to become a regional hub for SAF production using renewable resources like bush biomass and green hydrogen
The workshop also aligns with Namibia’s participation in the ICAO ACT-SAF programme and its commitment to develop a national carbon market framework, supporting the country’s broader goals under the National Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the
National Transport Policy 2025–2035.
