Windhoek, April 25 -Namibian Government joins the rest of world celebrating International Girls in ICT Day themed: “Leadership”. The day underscores the critical need for strong female role models in the field of Sciences,Technology,Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and further aims to promote empowerment and leadership development, paving the way for more equitable future STEM. Recent data from the international Telecommunications Union (ITU) reveals that while women occupy 40% of high- skilled position in ICT sector worldwide remains a significant disparity in leadership roles. This imbalance calls for proactive stance to support and encourage women to pursue this high-skilled and influential roles within this dynamic sector. As governments globally, we equally have the role to play in empowering women, fostering their interest in the ICT Sector and creating opportunities for them to advance and shape the ICT ‘s future.

Such initiatives are essential to narrowing the leadership gender gap and proving women with the experience necessary to inspire and overcome their barriers that limit their professional growth. Moreover, it’s crucial to inspire and equip the younger generation from the grassroots levels. In Namibia we are committed to fostering these ambitions by providing digital literacy and cyber security to girls through various programmes offered by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology and our partners, said Emma Theofelus , Minister of ICT. Tō this end, we celebrate all women who take up space in ICT sector and shape the younger generation.
