WINDHOEK, May 21 — Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah and her Botswanan counterpart, President Duma Boko, have agreed to deepen economic cooperation and accelerate joint infrastructure development projects, the Namibian Presidency said Saturday. The two leaders, who held official talks on Thursday in Gaborone, the capital of Botswana, emphasized the importance of historical ties and shared values as the foundation for expanding bilateral engagement. “During the talks, both leaders recalled the bonds of friendship and shared historical ties, which provided a sound basis for stronger economic cooperation,” the presidency said in a statement. Talks focused on enhancing trade and development through joint projects in sectors such as transport, energy, mining, and agriculture, it said. The two governments agreed to consolidate cooperation on cross-border infrastructure, including upgrading the Trans-Kalahari Railway and scaling up imports through the Port of Walvis Bay, according to the statement. The leaders notably discussed regional energy security and agreed to explore the feasibility of constructing a joint oil refinery. They also pledged to cooperate in the diamond and beef sectors, aiming to maximize value from shared resources and improve access to export markets.
