Namibia and Canada Strengthen Partnership at UNGA 80, Focusing on Climate, Energy, and Human Rights

During the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, President H.E. Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah met with the Prime Minister of Canada, Rt. Hon. Mark Joseph Carney, for a bilateral discussion.

In a spirit of mutual respect, the two leaders reflected on the longstanding friendship between Namibia and Canada, highlighting their historic ties. They explored new opportunities for collaboration in areas such as energy transition, sustainable mining, climate resilience, human rights, and enhancing people-to-people exchanges.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah emphasized Namibia’s commitment to raising global awareness about the Convention to Combat Desertification, underscoring its significance for desert nations facing climate change. Prime Minister Carney responded positively, assuring Namibia of Canada’s support and partnership in pursuing their shared priorities.
