MTC Set to Expand Retail Footprint with New Okongo Mobile Home

Windhoek, June 8 – Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) is poised to enhance its retail presence by opening a new outlet in Okongo, increasing its total number of stores nationwide to 40. This expansion marks the first retail outlet in Okongo, a rapidly growing town in the Ohangwena Region.

Addressing the Needs of Okongo Residents

Until now, Okongo residents have relied on MTC’s periodic outreach programs, often traveling nearly 100 kilometers to Eenhana to access essential services. However, this scenario is set to change as MTC finalizes plans to establish the town’s first-ever MTC Mobile Home, with an opening slated for August 2026.

According to Erasmus Nekundi, MTC Corporate Communications Practitioner, the growing demand for MTC services in Okongo and its neighboring areas has necessitated a permanent presence. “The demand for MTC services in Okongo and surrounding areas has increased significantly over the years, necessitating a permanent MTC presence in the town. Access to telecommunications services is critical to socio-economic development, making it essential for us to provide convenient and reliable access to our services as part of our customer-centric approach,” Nekundi stated.

Services Offered at the Okongo Mobile Home

The new Mobile Home is set to offer a comprehensive range of services, including:

  • SIM card replacements and registrations
  • Contract applications
  • Account payments and renewals
  • MTC Maris services
  • Sale of recharge vouchers

Expansion Strategy and Community Commitment

This expansion aligns with MTC’s Integrated Strategic Business Strategy and its digital inclusion strategy, aiming to establish service footprints in key growth areas based on demographic and economic data. Through this initiative, MTC reaffirms its dedication to innovation, customer-focused service delivery, and community development by providing solutions tailored to the needs of Namibians.

Nekundi concluded, “MTC will continue to invest in retail infrastructure, expanding our national footprint while ensuring our network always delivers a quality service.” He also mentioned that under the current financial year, additional mobile homes are planned for Walvis Bay and Okuryangava (in Windhoek), while the Ongwediva store will relocate to a larger space within the Oshana Mall.

Looking ahead to the 2026/27 financial year, MTC has plans for new outlets in Omaruru, Otjinene, and potentially Outjo, scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.

MTC’s ongoing expansion underscores its commitment to enhancing access to telecommunications services, fostering economic growth, and improving the quality of life for its customers across Namibia.
