MTC Salutes Desert Jewels with N$800 000.00 appreciation gesture

Windhoek, Oct 10 – MTC Namibia yesterday awarded N$400 000 to Namibia Desert Jewels – the National Netball Team, following their historic qualification for the 2027 Netball World Cup to be played in Sydney, Australia. This will see players, coaches and members of the technical team each receive N$20 000, a tablet and handset ( also valued at N$20 000) as a token of appreciation for their dedication, commitment and outstanding performance.
The gesture is a recognition of a remarkable achievement and the team’s contribution to placing Namibia on the global sporting stage.
The qualification of the Desert Jewels represents a significant milestone for Namibian sport, demonstrating the team’s resilience, discipline and determination to compete among the best netball nations in the world.
MTC Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer, Tim Ekandjo said the achievement has made Namibia proud and is an inspiration for young Namibians to pursue excellence.
“Sport continues to be a powerful platform through which Namibia’s talent, determination and national pride are showcased. The Desert Jewels have made the entire nation proud, and this contribution is our way of recognising their hard work and celebrating this historic achievement.”
Speaking on behalf of the Team, Desert Jewels Assistant Coach Kamutushi Nanguloshi welcomed the generous gesture and thanked MTC for its unwavering support for sport in the country. “On behalf of the team, we are grateful for the support from MTC. When you have corporate Namibia supporting sport, we will go far as a country.” She added “We are not going to Sydney to just participate; we are going to compete and represent our country with pride.”
MTC continues its commitment to supporting national sporting excellence. Earlier this year, the telco celebrated the success of the Brave Gladiators, Namibia’s senior women’s football team, with a N$300 000 contribution after their remarkable victory, demonstrating the company’s support for athletes who bring pride and inspiration to the country.
As Namibia prepares for the 2027 Netball World Cup, MTC remains committed to associate with initiatives that promote excellence, empowerment and national pride.
The Desert Jewels’ qualification serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes across Namibia and highlights the importance of investing in sporting talent and creating opportunities for Namibians to excel on international platforms.
