MTC Hails Netball Namibia’s Historic World Cup Qualification

Windhoek, Sept 25 — Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) has congratulated the Namibian national netball team on securing a historic qualification for the upcoming Netball World Cup.
MTC described the qualification as a significant milestone for Namibian sport, crediting the players, coaches, administrators and stakeholders whose dedication has contributed to the growth of netball in the country
MTC Chief Brand, Marketing, Communications and Sustainability Officer, Tim Ekandjo, said the achievement demonstrated what could be accomplished through dedication, sacrifice, hard work and strong leadership.
The telecommunications company said the qualification also highlights the growing strength of women’s sport in Namibia and the role sport plays in promoting national pride, social cohesion and youth empowerment.
“This is the vision we had when we launched the MTC Namibia Netball Premiership, and seeing it come to life today means everything,” Ekandjo said.
He noted that the qualification comes only six years after the establishment of the MTC Namibia Netball Premiership, describing the achievement as a significant moment for Namibian netball.
MTC’s structured sponsorship of Namibian netball began in 2021 with the launch of the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League. The initial three-year sponsorship was valued at approximately N$4.8 million, with the objective of professionalising the sport and establishing a national elite league.
The sponsorship has since increased, with annual funding rising to N$1.9 million in 2023, N$2.5 million in 2024, and N$3.4 million annually in 2026. According to MTC, the latest sponsorship is aimed at further professionalising the league, improving player welfare and supporting outreach programmes.
As part of its player-welfare initiatives, every player competing in the MTC Namibia Netball Premier League now receives a minimum allowance of N$1,200.
MTC said it has invested more than N$12 million in the development and professionalisation of Namibian netball since 2021, supporting the growth of the league and creating opportunities for hundreds of athletes nationwide.
MTC has wished the national team success in its preparations for the World Cup and called on Namibians to support the team as it prepares to represent the country on the international stage.
“The hard work is paying off, and the nation stands behind you,” Ekandjo said, adding that MTC looks forward to seeing the national team represent Namibia with pride, talent and determination.
