RABAT, Aug.30 — The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday voiced concern over the coup in Gabon, calling for preserving peace and tranquility. “The Kingdom of Morocco stresses the importance of preserving the stability of this brotherly country and the tranquility of its people,” the ministry said in a statement, adding that it is closely following the situation in Gabon. Morocco’s online English news website Hespress quoted anonymous sources as reporting that Moroccan national flag carrier Royal Air Maroc will “temporarily suspend” flights to Gabon for safety concerns. Gabonese officers said on Wednesday that the military has canceled presidential election results and dissolved state institutions, claiming it has taken power and put President Ali Bongo under house arrest. Gabon’s national electoral body said earlier in the day that Bongo from the ruling Gabonese Democratic Party was re-elected for a third term in Saturday’s election. However, the officers said that the election was not credible.
