Otjiwarongo, October 14 — The Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sports, Arts and Culture (MEIYSAC), together with UNICEF and UNESCO, is advancing nationwide consultations on the Draft Teaching Profession Bill and its accompanying Regulations. The latest session took place today in Otjiwarongo, Otjozondjupa Region.
Deputy Director of Education for Otjozondjupa, Mr. Uerivangera Chris Tjivikua, officially welcomed all participants to the consultation and highlighted the session’s importance. He framed it as a crucial opportunity for stakeholders to gain thorough understanding of the Draft Bill and its proposed Regulations ahead of their finalisation.
Mr. Tjivikua noted that the attendees had the unique chance to engage directly with the consultant and members of the national steering committee, who have compiled valuable feedback from previous regional consultations. “We can also learn from critical issues raised elsewhere,” he remarked. “This is our opportunity to understand what the draft regulations contain and to contribute meaningfully to ensure that they reflect our collective input.”
He further reminded participants of the need for active engagement by drawing lessons from the development of the Basic Education Act and its Regulations, where limited consultation had led to confusion in certain areas, such as the composition and election of school boards. “We should use this platform to study the Teaching Profession Bill and its Regulations thoroughly,” Mr. Tjivikua urged. “Let us raise questions where we are not clear so that when the final version is adopted, we are confident that it represents our collective understanding.”
Concluding his remarks, Mr. Tjivikua encouraged attendees to share the knowledge gained with colleagues unable to attend, ensuring that all educators in the region remain informed and ready for the forthcoming changes.
In line with MEIYSAC’s commitment to transparency and inclusivity, the public is invited to follow the consultations live via the official Facebook page of the MICT Otjozondjupa Regional Office and to actively participate in this vital national process shaping the future of teaching in Namibia.
