Mexico, Rwanda to host 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup pre-qualifying tournaments

MIES, Switzerland, April 18 — Mexico and Rwanda will host the 2026 Women’s Basketball World Cup Pre-Qualifying Tournaments between August 19-25, 2024, the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) announced here on Wednesday.
A total of 16 teams will compete at the 2026 World Cup in Germany. Apart from the 12 teams set to compete at the Olympic Games in Paris, the other four qualifiers will emerge from the next best 16 teams in the world (four per region) .
The following will compete at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 Pre-Qualifying Tournaments:
Africa: Senegal, Mali, Rwanda, Mozambique
Americas: Brazil, Mexico, Venezuela, Argentina
Asia/Oceania: New Zealand, South Korea, Philippines, Lebanon
Europe: Hungary, Czech Republic, Montenegro, Britain
The teams will be split to four groups, two for each tournament, in Mexico City and in Kigali, with the winner of each tournament qualifying for the 2026 Women’s World Cup Qualifying Tournaments taking place in March 2026.
