Guinea removes over 6,000 civil servants from public service records

CONAKRY, July 1 — More than 6,000 Guinean civil servants have been permanently removed from the public administration payroll as part of an operation to clean up the civil service database, authorities said Tuesday.

In a statement, Minister of Public Administration Modernization and Civil Service Faya Francois Bourouno said that 6,678 employees, working in several government ministries, have been dismissed. According to the statement, the removals followed the identification of irregular situations among the affected employees, including “abandonment of posts, prolonged unjustified absences, undeclared deaths, as well as other circumstances incompatible with their continued inclusion in the civil service workforce.” Bourouno reaffirmed his ministry’s commitment to continuing reforms aimed at establishing a “modern, efficient, transparent and citizen-oriented” public administration. He also stressed that the measures were intended to ensure “fairness between employees who actually perform their duties and those who do not report to their posts”, while strengthening citizens’ trust in public administration and putting an end to practices inconsistent with ethics and public service values. The ministry called on all state employees to demonstrate responsibility and professionalism in jointly building an administration that serves the Guinean people.
