Frankfurt signs Brazilian defender Otavio

BERLIN, July 29 — Eintracht Frankfurt announced on Tuesday the signing of Brazilian center-back Otavio on a contract running until June 2031.

Otavio developed in the youth systems of Botafogo and Camboriu in his native Brazil before joining Portuguese club Estrela in 2024. After making 14 appearances for Estrela’s under-23 side, the 1.93-meter left-footed defender quickly earned promotion to senior football. He made seven appearances for the reserve team before establishing himself in the first team last season, featuring in 22 of the final 25 league matches, including 17 starts. Otavio expressed his excitement after completing the move. “Joining a club with such a great tradition that regularly competes in major competitions is a dream come true and a very important step in my career,” he said. “I have come determined to work hard, improve every day and repay the trust the club has placed in me on the pitch. I am ready for this challenge.”

Frankfurt sporting director Timmo Hardung said the club believed the 20-year-old could strengthen its back line for years to come. “We are bringing in a young, highly talented center-back with plenty of room for development,” Hardung said. “He is left-footed, tall, athletic and quick, while combining those qualities with a strong defensive mentality that we deliberately wanted to add to our squad. We are convinced he will bring us a great deal of joy at Eintracht.”
