MIES, Switzerland, July 24 — The Regional Office Asia of the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) will relocate to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Beirut, Lebanon, in January 2027, and will welcome new leadership, the world basketball governing body announced here on Friday.
Wasim Khan, a British-Pakistani sports administrator, will succeed Hagop Khajirian of Lebanon as the Executive Director after the latter retires at the end of the year. The decision was taken by the FIBA Central Board and the FIBA Asia Zone Board. “The relocation of FIBA Asia to its original regional headquarters, in a well-connected and strategically located city that serves as a hub for international sports organizations such as the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the World Badminton Federation (WBF),” FIBA announced.
Khan makes the shift from cricket to basketball, having served as the General Manager of the International Cricket Council.
