KABUL, Dec. 8 — Two miners have been confirmed dead as part of a coalmine collapse in northern Afghanistan’s Samangan province, Radio and Television of Afghanistan reported on Monday. The bodies of the victims were recovered by residents and a rescue team and were transported to their hometown, it said. Unsafe mining practices, outdated equipment, and a lack of trained personnel continue to make Afghanistan’s coal sector one of the deadliest in the country, with frequent collapses claiming lives across multiple provinces.
