City Girl, Farm Boy, One Unexpected Love Story – #OppiPlaas debuts this December on kykNET&kie

Windhoek, Dec 4- A brand-new TV film, created in collaboration between kykNET and MultiChoice Namibia under the umbrella of their Ombura project, will debut on Sunday, 7 December on kykNET&kie (DStv channel 145). #OppiPlaas is a romantic comedy that shows what charming stories our neighbour to the northwest can tell.

Zoe leaves her job in the corporate world and starts her own enterprise focused on social media. She is a real city slicker, but when her new business struggles to take off, she half-heartedly agrees to take on a farmer as a client. The farmer, Armand van Wyk, is very comfortable with traditional life and is sceptical about this modern method of marketing.

Gys is Armand’s neighbour and best friend and the one who introduces him to Zoe. Gys’s sister, Alletta, has always had an eye on Armand, but is she really the woman for him? Or will love show that no divide is unbridgeable when there is a spark between a city girl and a farm boy?

“I made this film to bridge the gap between two different worlds; city and farm,” says director Hein van Zijl.

He continues: “Beyond the romance, I want the audience to reflect on their own lives: the courage it takes to embrace change, the importance of trusting others, and the beauty of stepping outside one’s comfort zone to grow personally and professionally. The story is not just about love; it’s about the transformative power of human connection and finding common ground despite differences.”

Nguundja Kandjii stars as Zoe, and Vaughn Ahrens, who also composed the #OppiPlaas soundtrack, is Armand. Charl Botha is Gys, and Jénica Engelbrecht plays Alletta. Sandile Mondlane appears as Zoe’s former supervisor, Mark Sipho, and Ula Brand is Jenny, Zoe’s best friend.

Tjiurimo Kandji wrote the screenplay, and Hein van Zijl is the director. #OppiPlaas was produced by the production company Skeleta and was filmed entirely in Namibia.

#OppiPlaas premieres on 7 December at 20:00 on kykNET&kie (DStv channel 145) and will also be available on DStv Stream and Catch Up.
