WINDHOEK, 15 September 2026 — China and Namibia have reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation across key areas of development.
Speaking at a reception in Windhoek marking the 77th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Ambassador Zhao highlighted the longstanding relations between the two countries, which were established diplomatically in 1990.
The Ambassador said China and Namibia have cooperated in areas including trade and the economy, infrastructure, education, health, agriculture, culture and multilateral affairs, with the partnership aimed at benefiting both peoples.
The occasion comes after Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s state visit to China in July, during which the two countries agreed to elevate their bilateral relationship to a China-Namibia community with a shared future for the new era.
Ambassador Zhao said the agreement provides strategic direction for deeper cooperation, particularly in areas of trade, investment and development. China also expressed its intention to support Namibia’s development priorities, including industrialisation and agricultural modernisation.
The Ambassador further emphasised the importance of strengthening people-to-people relations, particularly exchanges involving young people, the media, culture and the arts.
He said continued cooperation between the two countries could further expand the relationship and create new opportunities for both nations.
