Windhoek, July 31 – The Embassy of the Republic of China in the Republic of Namibia joined by the Namibian Government, various private sector industries, Chinese Community in Namibia and the Namibian nation on Wednesday 30th of July 2025 commemorated the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s war of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the world anti-fascist war.

His Excellency Zhao Weiping, Chinese Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia said ”the Chinese People’s war of resistance against Japanese aggression was a great victory of patriotism at its core, a great victory achieved with the Communist Party of China fighting as the central pillar, a great victory fought by the whole nation through solidarity and bravery, and a great victory for the Chinese people, anti-fascist allies and people around the world who fought shoulder-to-shoulder. The great victory was a historic turning point at which the Chinese nation rose from severe crisis in modern times and embarked on a journey toward great rejuvenation, and it was also an integral part of the world’s triumph over fascism’’.

The reception event also marked the 98th Anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA). Speaking on behalf of the Namibian Government, Dr. Charles Mubita, Deputy Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs in his remarks at the commemoration narrated the Bandung Conference which took place in April 1955 in Bandung, Indonesia which later shaped the relationship between China and Africa. The Bandung Conference took place from 18 to 24 April 1955 and involve 29 countries from Asia and Africa. The Conference aimed to promote Afro-Asia Economic and Cultural cooperation and to oppose colonialism and neo-colonialism.

Notable attendees during the conference included the leaders like President Sukarno of Indonesia, Prime Minister Nehru of India and Prime Minister Chou En-lai of China. Deputy Minister took the audience memory lane highlighting some of the key outcomes of the conference which resulted in the declaration known as the Bandung declaration, which emphasized principles like self-determination, mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, and peaceful coexistence. Mubita also call on the PLA to work closely with the Namibian defence force in order to assist in strengthening Namibia’s protection of territorial defence.
Colonel Li Shujun, Defense Attache of the Chinese Embassy said ‘’the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) is not only the force of strength and victory but it’s a force for peace.’’ Over the past 35 years China has undertaken 25 UN peace keeping missions deploying over 50 000 peacekeepers to more than 20 countries and regions. About 17 Chinese personnel has sacrifice their lives for the cause of UN peace Keeping.

Various dignitaries such as the Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, SWAPO Secretary General, Sophia Shaningwa, Governor of the Bank of Namibia, Johannes !Gawaxab, former Secretary to Cabinet George Simataa former Minister of Labour, Uutoni Nujoma and many others joined His Excellency Zhao Weiping of China to Namibia in commemorated the 80th Anniversary of the Victory in the Chinese People’s war of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the world anti-fascist war and the 98th Anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA).
